MULTI-MILLION DOLLAR GAS WORKS DEVELOPMENT REJECTED BY COUNCIL IN 2014
In 2014 a $65,000,000 application put forward by Tasland to develop the adjoining council car park within the Gas Works precinct was rejected by the Launceston City Council. Due to the application being rejected Tasland then decided to downscale the development to the Gas Works site only.
The rejected development included a new state of the art cinema, a walking bridge from Aurora Stadium across the river, a large outdoor stage for all types of family entertainment, a hotel plus restaurants and cafes. The rejection of this magnificent development was a very disappointing result for the people of Launceston and Tasmania.
Tasland are currently negotiating with an international conglomerate of companies in regard to a spectacular new retail and entertainment development at the Gas Works.
